Are You Implementing These 6 Business Card Ideas?

It’s never too soon to talk the business of business cards. Or too late! It is the last token of a first impression and the first step toward a longtime relationship. Let us walk you through the essentials and aesthetics of business cards so you can get going on getting yours off to print!
- First and foremost, content. You know what they say, less is more. The same design concept applies to business cards, but you must choose your information carefully. Square the basics: company, name, title. In your trade and in your position, what personal information is essential for clients reaching you? Generally, your email, phone number and website are enough.
- The layout. Size matters. Carefully choose which elements deserve emphasis. If your company logo is largest, you can afford a smaller script company headline or vice versa. Your name is next most important; you don’t want the client or new acquaintance to forget!
- You also get points for style. Keep fonts basic and size at a minimum of 8pt. Even if you work at an offbeat, fun company, you want to be taken seriously as a professional, and your card will speak on your behalf after you part from a meeting.
- The rule of threes: never use more than three colors or three font sizes. Black and white is classically chic, but can stand for a small pop of color with one element of choice- consider the logo. Remember to use your brand’s colors if there are any. You represent your brand, so use your cards to communicate its voice, too.
- Mind the gap. Always leave a 3mm bleed at the edge of the card to allow for printing inconsistencies. Keep any typed information toward the center (or we can determine a ‘safe area’ for you) of the card to ensure it is all printed.
- Fresh ideas. Embed QR codes into your logo! Allow clients to scan the logo and land immediately on your website. Emboss the font, give the typeface a dynamic, 3D result. Include a photo! If, and only if, it is massively relevant to your brand and can speak on behalf of your business.
